Children naturally grow, explore, and learn about their world at their own pace.

They are hardwired to learn through play and exploration. As they move through their development, they make connections to people, develop attachment bonds, learn to navigate conflict or frustration, and practice ways of communicating and expressing intense feelings. During this time of development and discovery, you might notice that your child has difficulty expressing their emotions in socially constructive ways, coping with change or conflict, meeting developmental milestones, focusing their attention, or managing everyday responsibilities.

At Aloe, we work with children in a fun, compassionate, and encouraging environment.

Kids often ask when they can come back! We recognize play is how children learn, so we make learning in therapy a fun and playful experience for children. We use a variety of age-appropriate, evidence-based approaches to help children express their emotions, improve focus, form positive relationships, and develop healthy coping strategies. We often think like kids ourselves and love to share unique strategies that help parents understand the world from their child’s perspective.

Parents and guardians are our collaborators.

We always look forward to sharing ideas and resources with you. We will develop a therapy plan together that meets your child’s needs for growth and independence. We will work towards goals that help your child thrive at home and in school. Our ultimate goal is to empower communication and collaboration between you and your child.

Aloe therapists are experienced with coordinating care across settings.

Advocate For Your Teenager

Being a teen today is not what it was ten, even five, years ago. Stressors have changed. There are increased demands on youth and unrealistic expectations shaped by social media and other sources. More than ever, teens need to be in tune with themselves to take pause, say no when they want to, and balance family, social, and school demands. Adolescent years are difficult, and when they become tough to manage for teens and their families, we are here to help.

At Aloe, we recognize you as a distinct person who needs trust and safety — a space away from family, social, and school pressures where you can process your thoughts and feelings.

We work with you to navigate challenges from situational stress, such as an unexpected feeling of powerlessness when confronted by peers or academic pressure, to an identity question regarding gender, sexuality, or life path. We can help you identify strategies to work with your family, manage expectations of the adults in your life, explore communication strategies, develop healthy coping skills, approach relationship issues, and build confidence.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to becoming who you are. Aloe is a stepping stone to discovering your path and embracing your identity.

Gender and sexuality are integral to identity.

At Aloe, LGBTQIA+ youth can talk about their feelings and views. We help youth explore ways to navigate their identity with family, friends, schools, work, and extracurricular activities.  We also help youth explore, develop, and communicate their gender-affirming needs. Aloe provides letters of informed consent and preparation for hormone-affirming therapy and gender-affirming surgery.

Dr. Law has been working with gender-diverse youth and their families for well over a decade. We understand that youth and their families might have different views, knowledge, and comfort levels with these topics. We work to support both youth and their families as they navigate this process and welcome any and all questions or concerns that may arise.

Family therapy can complement child and teen therapy.

Family therapy accommodates all or some family members and gives them an opportunity to resolve issues together. Ask our staff how family sessions can help further your goals.
