We recognize that becoming a gamete (egg or sperm) donor or gestational carrier is often rooted in the desire to bring joy to others.

For intended parent(s), whether they are individuals who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, have a medical condition, or have struggled with infertility, assisted reproduction is an opportunity to fulfill the dream of having a family.

Donors, gestational carriers, and intended parent(s) are as unique as the families that grow from them. It’s important that we honor and understand your story and ensure that you are prepared for the journey that lies ahead.

What To Expect

You can expect the psychological evaluation to last between 2 and 2½ hours. It consists of two parts:

Clinical Interview
Psychological Test

The clinical interview allows us to get to know you and your partner, if applicable, and what brought you to assisted reproduction. We will ask questions related to lifestyle, education, social factors, and medical history. For gestational carriers, we’ll ask about your support system. So that we can get a holistic picture of your expectations, we’ll broach topics related to traumatic experiences and current stressors.

During the clinical interview, we will explain the gamete donor and gestational pregnancy process, including the emotional, psychological, and physical components. We will discuss potential challenges and unexpected outcomes. The clinical interview is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have about the process, the future implications, even how you might discuss this experience with your current or future family.

Following the clinical interview, you will take a psychological test.

The psychological test is a written assessment covering topics related to mental health and behaviors.

After the clinical interview and psychological test, we will generate a report based on everything we learned during the psychological evaluation. This report will be provided directly to the clinic that you are working with. You can request a feedback session to obtain a personal copy of your evaluation with your clinician directly.

The psychological evaluation is just one step on your assisted reproduction journey. The goal is to make sure that you are not only fully informed and prepared, but that you have a successful and rewarding experience.
